Philip Schmidt Partner
LLB, PGDipLS, LLM (Otago)
Phil has over 20 years' experience as a specialist accident compensation lawyer and has appeared in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal on accident compensation matters. Phil is a regular guest lecturer, speaker and media commentator on ACC and medico-legal issues. He currently lectures in the Accident Compensation Law course at the Auckland University of Technology and is an author for Westlaw's Personal Injury in New Zealand. Phil is a member of ACC's Legal Representatives Panel and has served for many years on the New Zealand Law Society's ACC Committee. Phil has a particular interest in complex treatment injury cases, historic weekly compensation claims, gradual process injuries caused by work, and employer's levy liability.
Hamish Peart Partner
LLB, BA (Otago)
Hamish has acted as counsel in numerous ACC cases at all levels, up to the Court of Appeal. His clients include ACC claimants, unions, health societies and victims of crime. Hamish has a particular interest in surgery cases, treatment injury claims, and historical attendant care cases where families have not been correctly paid for care they have provided. He also advises on occupational health and safety cases and PPPR Act cases in the Family Court. Hamish is a lecturer in law at Auckland University of Technology and the convenor of the Accident Compensation Law paper. Hamish was previously chair of the steering committee of the Auckland Disability Law Centre in Mangere. He is currently a member of the ACC Legal Representatives Panel and an author for Westlaw's Personal Injury in New Zealand.
